Region — where the elephants walk free.

Mole National Park, Larabanga & the Gonja heartland.

Savannah Region is Ghana's wildlife crown — home to Mole National Park, the Larabanga Mosque, and the ancient Gonja kingdom. Here you walk with elephants on foot, sleep under savannah stars, and wake to a world that moves at the speed of its rivers.

The Overview

Walking safaris and
ancient mosques.

Savannah Region was carved from Northern Region in 2019, with Damongo as its capital — a quiet administrative town that happens to be the gateway to Ghana's most iconic wildlife experience. This is open savannah country, threaded by the White Volta and dotted with baobab trees, shea groves, and Gonja villages that have held their ceremonies for centuries.

At Mole National Park, you don't drive past elephants — you walk with them. Armed rangers lead you on foot through woodland where you'll share waterholes with antelope, baboons, and warthogs. Combine it with a morning at Larabanga Mosque, one of West Africa's oldest surviving buildings, and a stop at Mognori Eco-Village, and you have one of the most complete days of travel anywhere in Ghana.

“In Savannah, the wild is not behind a fence. It is walking alongside you.”
