Ashanti
Region — where the gold is woven.

Kingdom, craft, cloth & council.

Ashanti is Ghana's royal heart — a region of palaces, kente weavers, and a spiritual continuity that stretches back three centuries. The Asantehene still sits on the Golden Stool, and in Kumasi, history is a living thing.

The Overview

A kingdom that
never stopped.

Ashanti Region is the cultural spine of Ghana — the land of the Asantehene, the Golden Stool, and a kingdom that has held its ceremonies, its crafts, and its confidence for over three hundred years. Its capital, Kumasi, is called the Garden City, and it has been a centre of West African trade, scholarship, and royalty for centuries.

Ashanti is where you go to understand Ghana at its most Ghanaian. Watch kente cloth being woven thread by thread in Bonwire. Stand at Manhyia Palace where the Asantehene still holds court. Descend into the crater of Lake Bosumtwi, Ghana's only natural lake. Every village has a master craftsperson; every market has a story.

“In Ashanti, the past is not behind you. It is seated, robed in gold, and watching.”
