Northern
Region — Ghana under open sky.

Savannah, elephants, mosques & crocodiles.

Northern Ghana is a different country — open savannah, ancient mud mosques, walking safaris among elephants, and a culture that shaped West Africa long before the coast ever heard from Europe. It's Ghana's oldest story, told under its widest sky.

The Overview

Ghana under a
wider sky.

Northern Region is Ghana at its most ancient — a land of open savannah, baobab trees, and mud-built mosques that predate any European presence by centuries. It's the cradle of northern Ghanaian culture, home to the Dagomba, Gonja, and Mamprusi peoples, and a region where the rhythm of life still moves to rains, harvests, and festivals rather than rush-hour traffic.

At Mole National Park, walk on foot with elephants, antelope, and baboons. At Larabanga, pray at West Africa's oldest surviving mosque — built in 1421 in the Sudanese architectural style. In Paga, sit beside sacred crocodiles that have shared their pond with humans for centuries. And in Tamale, taste the jollof that some swear is better than anything the south can cook.

“The north is older. Slower. And when you go, it follows you home.”
